Join Rural Action in partnership with Appalachian Sustainable Development in preparing your farm for a Good Agricultural Practices audit.
Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP) are voluntary audits that assure consumers and wholesale purchasers that fruits and vegetables are produced, packed, handled and stored as safely as possible to minimize risks of microbial food safety hazards. GAP & GHP audits verify adherence to the recommendations made in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Guide to Minimize Microbial Food Safety Hazards for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables and industry recognized food safety practices.

GAP certification is required by wholesale buyers. To support our farmers in meeting this requirement, Appalachian Sustainable Development’s Appalachian Harvest Food Hub in Duffield, Virginia offers GAP training and technical support to help you prepare a Plan of Action Manual and mock audits that have led to a 100% GAP audit pass rate.
